Apply for Utility Assistance

Utility Assistance

This week, the NJ Department of Community Affairs mailed out letters to households with overdue electric and natural gas bills to notify them that they may be eligible for assistance. If you received a letter, be sure to open it so that you can apply for credits on your utility accounts.

For other households who are in need of utility assistance, you may be eligible for assistance from the Low Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP) or New Jersey Universal Service Fund (USF) programs. You can visit the DCAid Service Portal to find out which programs you may be eligible for and then apply.

The SBA is encouraging New Jersey businesses and residents affected by the remnants of Hurricane Ida on Sept. 1-3, 2021, to submit their loan applications for physical damages even if they have not settled with their insurance company.

SBA disaster loans can cover the difference between an insurance settlement and what is needed to fully recover.  If a survivor has not settled their insurance claim, SBA will consider making a loan for the total loss up to its loan limits. The insurance settlement will be used to reduce or repay the loan.

Outdoor Dining with a Heat Source

Any kind of heat source would require the tent/canopy to be rated and certified flame retardant. The less expensive canopies usually are not rated. A fire extinguisher would have to be accessible nearby and if propane, the heater and/or spare tanks can not be within 5 feet of an exit. Tanks need to be secured to prevent tipping over.  If you choose to have a heat source of any kind you must contact the Fire Department at 201-646-7685 for the proper inspection.

FAA Flight Path Update

TANAAC's initiative to move the flight path into Teterboro's runway 19 from flying over residential/HUMC to follow route 17 was well on its way to approval/use by end of March 2020.

The City has been informed of another 6 month delay because the NJ State Historic Preservation Office (NJSHPO) is requiring a more exhaustive evaluation of historic sites than what was done during their environmental evaluation.

This evaluation they are requesting may require the FAA to physically drive to each site, which will be further delayed by the current requirements for non-essential business.  The City is requesting clarification on such requirements to hopefully get this initiative back on track.
