Taking a Look Back to Old Hackensack
‘Hackensack, A Pictorial History’:
A vintage gallery and photo exhibit at Johnson Public Library
By Barbara J. Gooding
In June 2004, ‘Hackensack, A Pictorial History’ had its book premier at the Cultural Arts Center in Hackensack. The authors Allan Petretti, Barbara J. Gooding, Theresa E. Jones and Terry E. Sellarole, all alumni of Hackensack High School, created the book with the goal that 100% of its sale would go directly to the Hackensack Blue and Gold Scholarship Fund. Beginning April 4 and through the month, visitors to the Johnson Public Library can get a glimpse of the book and the City of Hackensack via a gallery of old photos and pictures taken for the book as well artifacts from years gone by, many that were on exhibit and admired at the premier.
The Hackensack Blue and Gold Scholarship Fund has raised over half a million dollars in 5 years with the interest against this money going to qualifying Hackensack High School graduates. To date $75,000 in scholarships has been planned.
The book is hard cover, coffee table style, and 160 pages packed with over 450 vintage photos of Hackensack. Interesting fun facts and bits of nostalgia will give any reader satisfaction cover to cover. The book which sells for $34.95 plus $5.00 shipping and handling can be procured by sending a check payable to: H. B. & G. Scholarship Fund and mailed to Hackensack Blue and Gold Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 2032, South Hackensack, New Jersey 07606.
