4/7/2020 - Survey: Re-Imagining Demarest Place in Hackensack.

The City of Hackensack and the Northern New Jersey Community Foundation (NNJCF) are working with Together North Jersey to develop a plan to redesigning Demarest Place into an ART Walk. Demarest Place is a walkway connected the Hackensack Bus Terminal to downtown Hackensack, where several redevelopment projects are already underway. This project will provide recommendations to turn Demarest into an arts destination within the City and to better connect Main Street to the Hackensack Bus Terminal and the Hackensack Performing Arts Center.

As part of this effort, Hackensack is seeking feedback from residents, commuters and visitors about how they currently use Demarest Place and what they would like to see in the future. They are collecting input using a brief online survey that asks questions, such as:

What types of cultural offerings would you like to see in Hackensack?

What is your favorite activity along Main Street in Hackensack?

What would draw you to Demarest Place?

Those interested in sharing their ideas, can fill out the survey here: bit.ly/HackensackSurvey

This project is part of the Together North Jersey (TNJ) Local Technical Assistance Program, which is funded by the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority. Together North Jersey provides technical assistance services to support local initiatives in the form of staff time from professionals and graduate students at the Voorhees Transportation Center at Rutgers University. Hackensack was one of only two projects selected for technical assistance this year.

Over the last four years, NNJCF's ArtsBergen has led Hackensack’s creative placemaking initiatives in partnership with the City of Hackensack, the Hackensack Creative Arts Team, the Main Street Business Alliance and local artists.
