The federal government will grant the Hackensack Fire Department $285,895 for operations and firefighter safety. The money will be used for several improvements throughout the Department.
“These improvements directly promote occupational safety and heath benefits to our firefighters,” said Thornton. “They also ensure operational effectiveness and service to the citizens of Hackensack while providing shared resources with our neighbors, and regional interoperability should a serious incident occur.”
In addition, the grant will be used to update local homeland security, improve fire stations, and purchase new communications equipment. This equipment includes a new dispatch center, mobile radios, computer dispatching equipment and modernization of inter-governmental communication systems.Chief Thornton thanked Congressman Steve Rothman for securing the grants. “The Hackensack Fire Department would like to thank Congressman Rothman for his tireless effort and dedication to the safety of our firefighters.”
